Description
Troy XCD XJet 3000 10/100 Serial Card Print server from working Troy HP 2420D. Serial Number9249387. In full working condition.
The photos tell the story. I have a Troy modified version of an HP Laserjet 2420D, one of two I purchased several years ago for resale purposes. While I sold one fairly quickly, for some reason I was not able to successfully sell the one I still have, and from which I have recently with care (details below) removed the XCD XJet 3000 card now being offered here on eBay.
Troy takes a standard printer made by companies such as HP and adds various security features to it, including a special font that works with a special type of toner called "MICR" to print banking information onto either partially preprinted check stock, or "print as you go" blank paper, plus lockable paper trays to make it less likely that special (e.g., custom printed) check stock can be taken by unauthorized users. I'm not mentioning the several additional security features because I have no reason to help people who might want to circumvent those features (though I would share the ones I am aware of, with the actual buyer, after payment). The Troy company still exists, and remains in the business of providing specialized added-security printers, and can hopefully supply technical support as needed.
Anyway, not long after I started using that non-sold Troy modified Laserjet 2420D in my office, I recently obtained an unmodified HP LaserJet 2420D with a printing history of only 23,000 pages. Since the HP Laserjet 2420D printer has a recommended maximum duty cycle of 75,000 pages PER MONTH, that makes the one I just picked up almost brand new.
Since the Troy modified 2420D
I already had showed a page printing history of over 850,000 pages before I started using it myself (it and another one, which I sold years ago, were formerly used by a county government agency that must have been regularly servicing it for it to last that long), it only made sense for me to retire that more-used printer and hold it as a "backup" in case the much less used printer ever had problems (or for potential later sale, see below).
Since I never had used this Troy-modified* JetDirect card in order to put that Troy-modified 2420D printer onto my own network (I found using its USB interface completely adequate for my needs), and since I already had some spare unmodified standard HP JetDirect cards in case I ever started using that Troy-modified unit again (or wanted to install such a card into my newly obtained near-new 2420D), it only made sense for me to offer the
XCD XJet 3000 from that printer
to eBay buyers.
I carefully removed that card from that 2420D, handling it only by the edges. I placed it on a Mylar foil anti-static bag to take the listing photos shown here, then sealed it in that bag pending sale. I did print 2 pages from the Troy-modified 2420D printer first, verifying that the printer saw the
XCD XJet 3000
as present and responding to self test type queries, and on that basis I am promising the buyer that the card will work perfectly. I have included scanned images of those 2 pages, that are particular to this specific
XCD XJet 3000 card (e.g.,
I have not reset any of this card's parameters / values, which you may need to do to get it to work with your network if the card does not configure itself automatically when installed into your printer.
Please note that the formatter board that is still in the Troy modified 2420D has various Troy changes made to it, such as enabling the special "keyswitch" Troy installed on the side of that 2420D that allows the user to either enable or disable the MICR features, as well as lock out a user entirely. I do have that key. So if someone wants me to list either that printer, that board with keyswitch, or both, and makes it clear that they are a serious potential buyer, please let me know. I could then extricate that formatter board with its keyswitch and offer them on eBay at that time. I'm not likely to take those steps, however, until and unless someone asks me to, since I have several toners for HP 2420D printers and would likely put the Troy 2420D back into service if the unmodified one I have stops working, rather than either pay the high cost of getting my "newer" 2420D serviced, or recycle those toners and buy a new printer.
Also, I have no idea whether there would be any point in installing that Troy modified*
XCD XJet 3000 into an otherwise unmodified HP LaserJet with an available "EIO" slot. You can certainly find a standard HP EIO card here on ebay for less than I'm asking for this specialized Troy
XCD XJet 3000 card. So the only persons who should be buying this card would be those who have a need (either as an end user of a compatible Troy modified HP LaserJet printer, or as someone who is servicing such a printer and has determined that the
XCD XJet 3000 installed in it has failed and needs replacing) of this specific model card.
*Note: I do not actually know for a fact that Troy took a "stock" HP EIO card, such as a JetDirect 615N or 610N, and modified the card, or instead built this XJet 3000 entirely "from scratch"; I'm just assuming that they did so. I did not, for example, compare what components are mounted, in which areas, of the components of a stock HP EIO card, to the card I'm selling here. The "backplane" of the card (the metal plate visible from the outside once the card has been installed into an HP printer's EIO slot, with openings for the installed RJ45 port, serial port, and what I assume is a 'reset' button that I don't ever recall seeing on a standard HP EIO printer interface card before) does look different than on a standard HP EIO card. This should not matter to you as the user of this card; I'm justincluding these observations to show that I am generally familiar with HP EIO cards and that I provide as much detail as I can regarding what I sell especially if not offered up in its original sealed retail packaging.
FREE "STANDARD CLASS" SHIPPING:
eBay defines "Standard Class" as meaning a shipping service that is supposed to get a buyer's item to them within 5 business days after being given to the shipper by the ebay seller. For an item of this size and weight, that means we'll use USPS First Class Mail to ship to you, at no added cost.
EXPEDITED SHIPPING VIA USPS PRIORITY MAIL:
You can decide at time of checkout to pay extra for us to ship via USPS Priority Mail if you're in a hurry, since in at least some cases, especially if you are located more than a few hundred miles away from our California location, First Class Mail would likely reach you just as fast as Priority Mail would.
Please note that we are referring here to "USPS Priority Mail", not the much more expensive "USPS Priority Mail Express" service (formerly known as "Express Mail"). is less than our actual cost (will be somewhere around .40 at USPS rates in effect when this listing will begin) to use Priority Mail, but since we're committing here to provide First Class Mail at our own expense, we feel it's reasonable to factor that into how much we'll charge you for upgrading you to Priority Mail. And if you do pay for the upgrade, we'll try a little harder to ship the same day as paid, rather than our normal standard of "ship by the next business day after date of payment" (see also next item).
WE SHIP QUICKLY AFTER PAYMENT:
Our commitment on this sale is to get your item(s) to the shipper within one business day after payment is completed. But if a buyer is able to get payment completed by 11am California time on a non-holiday weekday (Mondays through Fridays), we are often able to ship the same day as paid, especially if payment is completed by noon Pacific time. We may ship the same day as paid even if paid later, but the later in the day payment is made, the less likely same day shipment can take place (e.g., our nearest USPS station closes non-holiday weekdays at 5pm; nearby "street mail drop boxes" have a non-holiday weekday last pickup time of 3pm at the latest). Depending on circumstances at this end, we may even be able to do "same day as paid" shipping on a Saturday, though our local USPS station closes at 4pm Saturdays (vs. 5pm on weekday business days).
Since only one person here takes care of shipping (and just about anything else), we can't literally promise same-day-as-paid shipping, since things can always "come up" to prevent that.
We do however ship the same day as paid when we can, especially when it comes to relatively small size shipping packages, and our feedback shows that our customers appreciate the extra effort.
RETURNS IN GENERAL
:
Please be sure to save all shipping and packing materials (box, padding, etc.) for the length of the potential return period, in the event a return is to take place. If you have any questions at all about the condition of the materials, however, please contact us first to confirm that we would authorize you to re-use those materials in returning an item to us, since sometimes those materials get chewed up enough during initial delivery that they need to be repaired or replaced before being re-used.
NO-FAULT RETURNS
: 30 calendar day return time, running from date of first attempt at delivery by the chosen shipper to your ebay verified shipping address, if you return these for any or no reason in the same condition as sent, at your expense. However, if you do something that causes one of these to fail in use, e.g., if you spill your drink onto the card or somewhere else on the printer it's isntalled into, and as a result the card is damaged, that is a good example of something that would not qualify as a "NO-FAULT RETURN". If we receive a card that was obviously damaged at the user's end, no refund will be given. The buyer if wanting the card returned to them in that situation will be responsible for return shipping cost.
CLAIMED SELLER FAULT RETURNS:
Ebay lets you return almost anything within 30 days after receiving it, if what was purchased is not what the listing represented it to be, no matter what limitations a seller may try to put on the reasons for return (and many do). For example, we are representing this card as functional when shipped; if it arrives DOA, or ceases to work correctly within the 30 day return period for no fault of the buyer, on verification of those conditions we'll issue a full refund, including return shipping cost if not already provided. Please see exact details as provided by eBay at the top of this listing. To the extent that ebay allows it, you must use a shipping class and type that costs no more than what we used to ship your item(s) to you (e.g., please don't return via the expensive method of "Priority Mail Express" and assume we'd pay for that).
SALES TAX ISSUES: (A) Exemption Claim; (B) EBAY'S NEW POLICY REGARDING CHARGING SALES TAX ON INTERNET SALES:
A. Exemption: As of the date of this listing, if you are a reseller qualified for this itemto be exempt from automatic state sales tax collection by eBay (see "(B)" below)
, if you think eBay might automatically add sa
les tax here, please contact eBay and/or check with us before you bid about filing any required exemption forms to seek. Be sure to take care of this before you pay, since (a) we never see that tax money, so can't refund what we never had, and (b) we are not in a position to be your "advocate" in dealing with dozens of different state laws and requirements to allow sales tax not to be paid. Note that we can't allow nonpayment to go on indefinitely while you do what you need to do to try to avoid paying sales tax, which is why we are letting you know about this issue before you buy.
B. For all buyers: On January 3, 2019, we received the following message from ebay about sales tax collection:
"If you sell to buyers in the US, some states may require you to collect applicable Internet Sales Tax on your transactions. In such cases, eBay calculates, collects, and remits Internet Sales Tax for orders shipped to customers on your behalf. After we collect state Internet Sales Tax, you do not need to take any action. There are no extra charges or fees for this service. Learn more about Internet Sales Tax on our Help pages."
We aren't 'tax experts', but what we think the above basically means is that if you buy something on ebay that you would have had to pay sales tax on, if you'd bought it instead from a local store like a Best B
uy
store, etc., in your state, ebay might now add your state's sales tax to your purchase price. eBay would then send that tax money, that was part of the total that ebay had you pay, to your state.
We never see that money, so can't "refund" it. Even if you told us before you purchased the item, and sent us documentation to prove such exempt status, we as the seller have no way to stop eBay from adding state sales tax to what you bought. And even if you sent us documentation before or after the purchase, as some sellers have done with us in the past, and asked us either to refund the amount of tax paid, or if not yet paid, ask us to custom create an invoice that does not charge tax, our experience is that eBay will add tax anyway.
Some states may provide a way on your tax return forms to request a sales tax refund.
Please contact ebay if you have any questions about these sales tax issues.
