Large Vintage Hand-painted Toleware Vase / Water Vessel From India. Majestically painted toleware vase is 18 1/2 inches tall and 17 inches diameter. - top opening is 4 1/2 inches wide. It is made up of 5 separate pieces of metal and attached together - not sure of the specific technique - but I included photos of the various joints and the tabs on the various pieces where they fit together. The bottom is one piece, then the sides where the four large paintings are (two elephants, one horse and one camel with sets of men walking in between each). The third piece is the top with the green and gold vines with red/pink flowers and the last two pieces are the neck and the top - which are painted black and gold. Background of the entire piece is black with the painting on top and then a semi shinny glaze on top. You can see inside where some of the glaze pooled in the bottom - probably a lacquer or varnish. Inside is bare metal. Vase weighs about 6 pounds. I purchased this item about 20-25 years ago and it sat in the corner of my living room. No dents or issues with the paint - a beautiful piece of art.
