19c Goldwork Antique Embroidery Ottoman Tughra Metallic Thread Turkish Rare Find. Goldwork is defined as gold, silver or copper Strands wrapped around an embroidery thread. I believe all three may have been used in this piece but it looks mostly gold. This embroidery is in beautiful condition, It sparkles with only one spot discolored with tiny tear on front as shown in photo. The embroidery measures 18” x 19” plus 1” fringe all around.The threads on the edge have been scrunched to imitate fringe, as found. The stitching is impeccably Worked in Traditional couching Held down by Linen threads. The piece is very clean. There was evidently a ribbon sewn in around the backside that has shredded in places. It does not affect or weaken the piece. Traditional peacock center motif surrounded by birds and decorations. Beautiful ornate corners. A spectacular piece to be framed or Used as a decorative pillow. This is the most spectacular piece of embroidery I have ever come across and it is hard to part with it.
